Lentil Dosa

A protien rich dosa, easy, quick, healthy and delicious:)…quick because no fermentation is required, yes it s instant! It was an accidental discovery, woke up to a lazy sunday once ,wondering what to cook for breakfast and wanted to eat dosa but then as usual hadn t done the drill of soaking ,grinding and fermenting the batter:(,then suddenly it struck ,why dont i do something with the lentils and add some rice and see if i can get a decent taste and texture of a dosa! So i quickly soaked the lentils and rice along with some fenugreek seeds for 30 mins and ground it with some green chillies, onion, curry leaves, ginger, coriander leaves and of coarse salt to just add up some flavour to it! Voila the result was unbelievable! Crispy colored dosa with a distinct flavour:)

Ingredients:|Preparation Time:45 mins,including 30 mins soaking time|

  • Rice (any variety) 1 cup
  • Split Green gram(moong dal)  1/2 cup
  • Split Black gram(urad dal) 1/2 cup
  • Split Bengal gram(channa dal) 1/2 cup
  • Fenugreek seeds(methi) 1/2 tspn
  • Onion  (roughly chopped) 1 medium
  • Green Chillies   (roughly chopped) 3
  • Ginger  (roughly chopped)  1/2 inch
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Coriander leaves  a few sprigs
  • Salt as per taste
  • Ghee just to make the dosa crisp

Method:|Making Time:15 mins|

Soak the lentils ,rice and methi together for 30 mins, wash it well and grind it into a fine batter along with remaining ingredients(not the ghee). It should not be too watery nor too thick, medium consistency is good.

Heat a flat pan to make the dosa in ,add a few drop of ghee, take a ladle full of the batter and make a dosa in a circular manner. Drizzle a few drops of ghee over it and cover it for a minute ,until it s crisp enough. Fold it into half and serve it hot with chutney or curry of your choice:)…the dosa itself has a lot of flavour so make a complimenting accompaniment! Enjoy:)

**Tip: You can use any combination of lentils you wish to.
